LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Under-worked and over-paid

A THOUGHT-provoking letter in last week pages led me on to one seen recently in the Mail, yes the Dave Mail, call Samaritans on xxxx.

The writer’s main point was GP access, where Mrs Whitehouse had missed the point.

In the Mail, a chap had written that his 94-year-old war veteran father was desperately needing to see a GP.

The Rottweiler, sorry, receptionist said the GP would not see him as he was scared of catching Covid!

Hmm, really said the chap, I wonder if my father was scared of catching a German sniper’s bullet when he was running up Juno beach in 1944.

Now that must have been really scary.

In Mrs Whitehouse’s defence, yes GPs are under pressure, but so are nurses and all other NHS services.

The difference being, GPs are paid £200K pa for that pressure.

In 2004 under Gordon Brown’s government, GPs were given a big pay rise and allowed to cut their working week, which has continued to this day.

They now seem to work only part time, and are getting worse.

A feature on the news was the sad death of a D-Day veteran.

The man’s father, unlike GPs, didn’t go missing in action.

Just adding insult to injury.
