LETTER TO THE EDITOR: The people are to blame

PEOPLE are quick to point the finger at Rotherham Council or StreetPride regarding the state of our streets, but not so fast to take the blame themselves.

I am sick to the back teeth of seeing people dropping cigarette ends, hurling wrappers out of car windows, tipping rubbish onto the streets, throwing cans and bottles and generally treating the place like a rubbish tip.

Maybe because they think it is — “It’s a dump,” they say.

Yes, because you are turning it into one and you know there is little chance you will be punished for doing so.

The Advertiser has regularly featured stories about little patrols and increased punishments for those throwing rubbish to the ground.

Really? I don’t see it. I see plenty of people committing the crime, but not many being made to pay.

Next time you decide to blame someone else for the state of the place have a look at your own behaviour and have a think about whether you are part of the problem.
