LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Christian view of the Ukraine

WE found your letters about Russia and Ukraine on March 12 very interesting, but would like to give some information from a different view, of what Christians are saying about it.

True Christians take a great interest in what God’s Word, the Bible tells us about prophecies that Jesus and certain Prophets tell us will come true, which never fail to come true, as they are all given by God.

God’s Word tells us that the land of Israel has always been the centre of his attention, since the beginning of Creation. But, in 70AD Israel was conquered by the Romans, and the land was not restored back to the Jews until May 14 1948. Jesus, who was God in the flesh, told his followers in the book of Matthew chapter 24, a list of prophecies that would happen in the last of the Last Days, or the end of the age. All these prophecies have come true.

Ezekiel, a Prophet of God in the Old Testament told of a time when Israel would be back in their land, and will be hated by many surrounding nations, and that countries above Israel, in the north, will seek to destroy Israel and all Jews (just as Hitler tried to in World War 2). Ezekiel 38, 39 tells us about the Gog and Magog war, and that Gog who is a leader, will attempt to destroy all countries situated below it, and in those days was called Rosh, but today is called Russia.

One of the countries mentioned in this chapter is Persia, which is present day Iran, who have continually made it plain that they want to wipe Israel and all Jews off the map. Jesus told His disciples in Matthew 24 that he would return to earth for a second time, at the end of the world (age) when Jews would be back in their own land, and surrounding nations would seek to destroy Israel. Zechariah Chapter 14 tells us of a time when Jesus will come again, back to the Mount of Olives, where he ascended after his resurrection back to heaven.

We believe the Russian/Ukraine war could be leading up to the time when the countries around Israel will band together, seeking to wipe Israel off the map. This will be the time when Jesus returns, and destroys all those who hate Israel. Jesus gave his life to pay the price for all our sins, whether Jew or Gentile. If we ask him into  our heart and life, we can be sure of his love and safety.
