Letter: Keep volunteering in ‘Mind’

AS this volunteers week has revealed that less than half of people in the UK volunteer formally, I am calling on readers to support Mind’s Wickersley shop on 244 Bawtry Road, Wickersley, by giving just a couple of hours twice a week.

Our shop relies on volunteers to raise money for Mind, the mental health charity, which supports people experiencing mental health problems so they do not have to face things alone. People of South Yorkshire can help us to continue doing this by volunteering to sort stock, create brilliant displays and talk to customers.

If you have a creative eye, know a good book when you see one, or just love going on the hunt for hidden treasures, we’d love to hear from you. No prior experience is necessary, and just two hours of your time would make all the difference.

What’s more, our shop is truly a community hub — we support people by offering a safe environment for meeting people from the area.

I urge readers to pop in and find out more about how they can support us. With community support we will be able to raise vital funds for the charity’s work such as the Mind Infoline, information and advice services, and the campaigning Mind does to secure a better life for the one in four people who experience a mental health problem every year.
