Home is where the potholes are

Sir, Oh, to be in England. Hubby and I have just spent a wonderful Christmas break in Austria, travelling from Calais, through France and Germany and return.

Hubby and I have just spent a wonderful Christmas break in Austria, travelling from Calais, through France and Germany and returning.

Litter - there wasn't any; potholes - NONE; speed humps - NONE; snow-cleared roads - ALL!

In the small village a few miles from Innsbruck where we stayed, the snow plough was clearing fresh snow from roads and pavements every morning, as needed.

Dover to home - litter, litter, litter. Driving around home - pothole after pothole. My last car suffered damage to the suspension owing to potholes, and I am damned if my new car is going to suffer the same fate.

So, if you see a red Meriva weaving around the roads in Rotherham, the driver is NOT drunk, but avoiding damage to her car.
