Give jobs to those best-qualified
Sir, Like many of your readers, I was pleased to hear that another 70 miners will be recruited when Hargreaves add an additional shift at Maltby Colliery.
The increased production at the pit will provide a much-needed input to the local economy in Maltby.
It would be sensible, though, for these new jobs to go to those people best qualified for the positions.

Hide AdI would be as concerned by people being employed simply because their families have lived in the area closest to the pit for longest, as I would if the jobs were given to under-skilled workers simply because they could be paid less.
