Former clerk sets record straight

I write to set the record straight about the letter from Chris Olsan (Advertiser, February 4, ) which criticises Cllr John Kirk, of Maltby Town Council, for his actions towards me.

I write to set the record straight about the letter from Chris Olsan (Advertiser, February 4) which criticises Cllr John Kirk, of Maltby Town Council, for his actions towards me.

I wish to state that Cllr Kirk was not one of those responsible for my departure from the Town Council. That action was pursued exclusively by Cllr M. AInsworth, J. Anderson, J. Bradford, M. Bradford, A Foster, B Fuller-Ainsworth, J Madden, B Slade and K. Usher.

In my experience, the only wish of the remaining councillors, including Cllr Kirk, was to  do their absolute best for Maltby. In doing so, they treated the office of Clerk and Financial Officer with respect, for which I was grateful.

It was Cllr Slade, not Cllr Kirk, who was suspended from public office because of his behaviour towards me. If anyone wants to read of the circumstances of his suspension please visit the website of the Adjudication Panel for England, www.adjudicationpanel.tribunals.gov.uk, where there is a summary of the proceedings.

It is not for me to comment on such things as councillors being a “thorn in the side” or “on an ego trip” as, regrettably, they are no longer my concern. I do hope, however, that the good people of Maltby will resolve these issues at the ballot box on Thursday, May 5, and return a team of councillors who are intent on serving the community rather than some who were intent on serving themselves.

DJ Morton, former clerk to Maltby Town Council, Gleadless, Sheffield (address supplied).
