Appalling treatment at Rawmarsh Community School

I have been following the strike action at Rawmarsh Community School with some interest and concern.

The treatment of the staff, pupils and parents there has been appalling, for no fault of their own, jobs have been lost and the school has lost some good experienced teachers.

The treatment of two teachers in particular that I know of, illustrates the total lack of consideration and recognition of the value of teachers in the school by the head, the governors and senior management.

I know from personal experience the commitment and dedication of the teachers concerned. The head has caused further change and unrest by instigating a new staffing structure for the last term, could this not have waited until the new academic year thus allowing the present staff the dignity, satisfaction and respect of completing a most trying and difficult year.

Furthermore it does appear strange that those responsible for this situation still have their positions while the victims of mismanagement have lost out. I feel that the LEA and the governors are also at fault in their negligence of supervising the deficit budget which has caused this demise.

In addition should they not be more responsible in the treatment and care of their employees. With regret the NUT teachers have had to strike but they still remain sensitive and concerned to the disruption it has caused within the local community of which have offered support and understanding.

Rawmarsh Community School does not want bigger classes and a watered down curriculum but does want what is best suited for the children attending. Children have the right to be taught by good teachers with a well balanced curriculum in appropriate size classes.

Let us hope this can be resolved and progress made to sustain what was a strong and well respected school.
