Win a job as an apprentice writer — fantastic opportunity to work for two of Rotherham’s top companies!

DO you have a passion for writing, a desire to get your message across to as many people as possible, and a flair for social media? Would you relish the opportunity to work for two of Rotherham’s most well-respected companies?

Apprentice of the Year 2023 headline sponsor, AESSEAL, is marking its launch by joining forces with the Rotherham Advertiser to offer a great opportunity — ideally for a person who has completed a Level 3 qualification or A-Levels — to the winner of our special competition.

The person who “gets the job” will split their time between AESSEAL, which is based in Rotherham and was recently placed among the UK’s top apprentice employers, and the 165-year-old newspaper, the Rotherham Advertiser.

The position will involve writing press releases and news stories, conducting marketing and advertising campaigns, and posting on platforms ranging from print and the internet to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok.

Advertiser editor Andrew Mosley said: “Each year we run our Apprentice of the Year competition and talk about how vital apprentices are to Rotherham, its economy, and its future. This is a great opportunity for someone who maybe doesn't want to follow what has now become the traditional route into the workplace. They will have a full-time job, earn while they learn, and be fully mentored throughout the year, which will provide them with the attributes to kick-start their career.”

AESSEAL is backing its commitment to apprenticeships and “Investing in young people today for the business of tomorrow”.

Managing director Chris Rea said: “We need inspiring young writers interested in business, technology, and the environment and keen to support the growth of local talent through exciting apprentice opportunities and continual professional development. The AESSEAL apprenticeship scheme offers a real alternative to university.”

Examples of successes at the company include Emily Allen, a former Level 3 Business Admin Apprentice in the company’s commercial and despatch department, who won Rotherham's Advanced Apprentice of the Year award for 2022. Emily has since progressed onto despatch lead managing a small team.

Lucia Bird is a current apprentice working in the volume product as a CNC machinist and says she is proud to work at AESSEAL as engineering has previously been a male-dominated industry, but AESSEAL is an inclusive company to work for.

The person who is awarded the position will receive full training and guidance on every aspect of the job, which should provide them with a great learning experience and springboard to further their career with either of these companies or elsewhere in the jobs market. An official contract will outline pay and conditions.
