REVIEW: Boyband in the Buff, Rotherham Civic Theatre

THE weather may have been cold and wet on the night but it certainly did not deter the positive vibes of the sold-out event that saw sculptured men 'reign' with Boyband in the Buff at Rotherham Civic Theatre.

My evening began when I was included in a lovely meet and greet with star of the show Gareth Gates and other ladies.

Gates gave everyone his time for the hour and chatted.

We were able to take pictures and selfies and he gave us all signed giant posters.

Speaking to the Advertiser Gareth Gates said: “I’m thrilled to be Boyband in the Buff! I’ve never done anything like it – it's fun!

“The audience goes crazy for the nineties and naughties boyband hits...they usually quite like the topless guys, too!

“I’ve always dreamed of being in a boyband and now's my chance!”

The evening was filled with copious amounts of pop, passion and pecs as we were all happily catapulted back to the nineties and naughties with songs from multiple popular boy bands including Hanson, Back Street Boys, NSYNC, Westlife, Take That and many more.

The event was in essence the ultimate throwback concert with a cheeky twist.

It was beautifully choreographed, fun and playful and very tastefully put together.

Ladies of Rotherham – and four men – were mesmerised by Pop Idol heartthrob Gareth Gates alongside a cast of seriously talented (and seriously ripped) performers.

The evening was high energy, with slick harmonies, impressive and, at times, saucy choreography.

I was not only fortunate to sit right on the front row but I was even included in the show and taken on stage with several other ladies.

I was sung to by THE Gareth Gates – he twirled me round and I was absolutely star struck!

Fellow attendee Danielle Hague of Rotherham was fortunate to catch one of the ripped off shirts thrown into the audience.

She said: “I had the most amazing night! I highly recommend going – I give it a 10/10!’

Sarah Young undertook the 50-minute drive from Derbyshire for the evening and was not disappointed telling me: “I had the best night.”

It has to go down as one of my favourite nights I’ve ever reviewed.

If like me, you’ve ever had a boyband crush – this is your kind of evening out!
