Bangers and Cash – the European road trip that raises money for South Yorkshire youth homelessness charity Roundabout – has begun with this year’s competing teams revving up for the chequered flag start at Meadowhall last week.

Roundabout launched its first Bangers and Cash challenge in 2018, when 21 teams of adventurers hit the road and raised £96,000 as supporters drove from Sheffield to Monte Carlo, their car bonnets decorated with unique works created by a team of professional artists.

This year the vehicles are heading for the German city of Munich and its famous Oktoberfest, with the aim of raising even more money for some of the region’s most vulnerable young people.

Roundabout fundraising manager Emily Bush said: “Imagine television cartoon classic The Wacky Races with some great art work thrown in and you’ll get some idea why this is such a colourful and crazy event.”
