Woman ‘raped in town centre’

AN investigation has been launched after a woman is believed to have been raped in broad daylight in the town centre.

The alleged incident occurred on Market Street, Rotherham, around 2pm last Thursday (March 30) and the area was cordoned off a short time after as police carried out their investigations.

A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said the force received “a third party report that a woman in her 30s had been raped”.

A 42-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of rape and has been released from custody.

The woman was receiving support from specially trained officers, the spokeswoman added, and anyone with information is urged to contact 101 quoting incident number 523 of March 30.
