The Advertiser joined officers this morning on Moorgate Road for the day of action as part of Operation Duxford, which saw an "inexperienced driver" caught in the act after "wheel-spinning" out of Tesco car park near Thomas Rotherham College.

Supt Paul McCurry, Operational Support Unit lead, said: "The number one concern that our neighbourhood policing teams receive feedback on from communities is serious speeding.

"We want today to be all about educating drivers and to urge them to not speed, to wear a seatbelt, don't drink and drive or use a mobile phone."

Operation Duxford often targets drug crime or burglaries, but today's activities are specifically focused on speeding.

Supt McCurry said the force had seen a rise in serious and fatal collisions over the last year and it was aiming to conduct full-day speeding crackdowns at least twice a year.

Residents had flagged up Moorgate Road as a problem area for speeding motorists with neighbourhood police, said Supt McCurry, who explains in the above video how one young driver was caught in the act this morning.

The18-year-old driver was pulled over for driving in an anti-social manner - he had only been driving for three days!

A marker was placed on him as a driver and his car. If any further offences are committed in the next 12 months his car will be seized.
