Two hurt in police car collision in town centre

TWO police officers were taken to hospital after a collision in Rotherham town centre which caused long delays for motorists.

The accident happened at the junction of Main Street and Centenary Way at 3.30pm yesterday and involved a marked police vehicle and a white Seat Ibiza.

Roads through the middle of town, including Corporation Street and College Road, suffered congestion after the incident, with National Highways reporting the collision had caused two-and-a-half miles of queues.

A police spokesperson said: “Whilst responding to an incident, a police car was involved in a collision with a white Seat Ibiza at the junction of Main Street and Centenary Way in Rotherham town centre.

“Two police officers were taken to hospital with non-serious injuries. No one further was hurt in the incident.”
