Two at court court charged with child sex offences

TWO men accused of 29 sex offences against a total of 14 girls — including rape and sexual assault — have appeared in court.

Neil Cawton (67), of Rawmarsh, is charged with committing nine offences against four schoolgirls between 2006 and 2012.

David Saynor (75), formerly of Rotherham, is accused of 20 offences, including four counts of rape and three counts of sexual assault.

Saynor’s charges relate to ten victims and the offences are all alleged to have been committed between 2007 and 2015.

Cawton and Saynor both made their first appearance before Sheffield Crown Court last Wednesday.

Cawton’s case was adjourned for a trial from November 13 onwards while Saynor will appear next for a preliminary hearing on April 19.

The charges stem from Operation Stovewood, the National Crime Agency’s investigation into historic child sex abuse in Rotherham between 1997 and 2013.
