Rotherham man charged in connection with fatal stabbing

DETECTIVES investigating the murder of a man at a Sheffield pub on Boxing Day have charged a Rotherham man in connection with the fatal stabbing.

Layton Morris (24), of Sidney Street in Rotherham, appeared at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday charged with assisting an offender in relation to the death of Macaulay Byrne.

He was remanded into custody until his next court appearance on a date yet to be set.

Mr Byrne (26), also known as Coley, was stabbed at the Gypsy Queen pub on Drake House Lane in Beighton at about 10pm on Boxing Day. 

He was taken to hospital but later died from his injuries.

Police said enquiries were ongoing.
