A LORRY carrying £30,000 worth of stolen goods was stopped near Meadowhall as part of a cross-border police operation involving air support.

South Yorkshire Police’s Operational Support team was made aware of the 17-and-a-half tonne HGV heading towards South Yorkshire at around 3am on Tuesday.

Officers believed the lorry had been used “in a significant theft in Northants”.

“With support from Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Road Policing and the National Police Air Service, South Yorkshire Road Policing units stopped the HGV on the M1 just north of Meadowhall,” said an officer.

“The three occupants were all arrested and stolen goods worth approximately £30,000 were found in the back of the vehicle.

“Excellent result, not least because the vehicle was stopped without damage or injury, and the property is on its way back to the owner.”
