Hospice fundraising mascot takes the biscuit

A GINGERBREAD version of Bluebell Wood’s four-legged mascot has raised £3,866 for the children’s hospice.

The biscuit iterations of spaniel George have been snapped up 19,331 times since being launched on St George’s Day 2022.

They were introduced at 17 Staniforths shops across Rotherham, Sheffield and Barnsley — and the family-run bakers also donates 5p from carrier bag sales.

It has added up to a fundraising total of £13,650 since 2019.

Staniforths operations manager Julie Wisher said: “Our customers love George.”

The bakers created a girlfriend for him — Georgina — which was sold on Valentine’s Day after a suggestion by assistant sales manager Jenni Goulty.
