Fire crews remove brickwork to reach Rotherham town centre blaze

FIREFIGHTERS had to dismantle brickwork to find a blaze in an empty building in Rotherham town centre.

Crews found smoke but no flames after being called to Upper Millgate at 2.45pm on Saturday.

A fire service spokesman said: “There was some slight smoke logging, so they kept searching for the seat of the fire.

“Firefighters had to actually remove bits of brickwork to get to the fire, which they did eventually. It was between two wall voids.”

Crews were at the scene until 10pm.

In a separate incident at the same location, fire crews helped a person with head injuries shortly before 5.30pm.

They attended to the man until paramedics arrived, the spokesman said.
