Fire crews called out six times overnight after waves of arson attacks

FIREFIGHTERS spent more than three hours tackling deliberate blazes after arsonists struck six times overnight in Rotherham and the Dearne Valley.

Crews were first called to a deliberate fire involving bushes on Wright Crescent, Wombwell, at 7.05pm and left the scene at 7.30pm.

Firefighters also spent nearly an hour at a fire, believed to have been started deliberately, involving wood and rubbish on Doncaster Road, Goldthorpe, arriving at 7.15pm and coming away at 8.10pm.

Grassland was then deliberately set on fire at 7.25pm on Varney Road, Wath. Firefighters from Rotherham station attended and left at 8pm.

Rubbish was later deliberately set alight on Queen Street, Thurnscoe, at 7.55pm. The crew came away 45 minutes later. 

Firefighters also spent 15 minutes tackling three wheelie bins targeted by arsonists on Hazel Road, Edlington, at 9.45pm. 

A crew from Rotherham station attended a deliberate rubbish fire on Canklow Road, Canklow, in the early hours of this morning. They arrived at 12.35am and came away at 12.55am.
