Fire at former Mecca on Corporation Street was arson

Emergency services were called shortly before 10am to the old cinema building in Rotherham town centre.

Road closures were put in place while South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue dealt with the blaze.

A police spokesperson said: “Initial investigations by the fire service crews confirmed this to be arson. Enquiries are now ongoing into the incident.

“If anyone saw or heard anything suspicious in the area around the time of the incident, or has any information which could assist enquiries, they are asked to get in touch.”
