Breaking: Major road in Rotherham closed due to police incident

A MAJOR road in Rotherham was closed this morning due to a police incident.

Wortley Road in Kimberworth was cordoned off at the Fenton Road roundabout, with both carriageways of the road towards the town centre closed.

Police at the scene said the road had been shut at about 7am and would be shut for some time.

A spokesperson said: “Police were called at around 7.10am this morning to reports of concern for the safety of a woman on a bridge near to Dovercourt Road in Rotherham.

“There are a number of road closures in place in the directly surrounding area and therefore we are encouraging people to avoid the area.”

Ambulance staff were also in attendance.

Surrounding roads, pavements and the subway between the Henley estate and Masbrough are also cordoned off.
