Wrestlers to grapple at Dinnington epilepsy support event

WRESTLERS will help an epilepsy support group throw a first birthday party to remember tonight as its team of volunteers celebrate a successful first year.

Donna Bird (43), from Dinnington, set up White Rose Epilepsy in June last year and the group now has more than 1,300 Facebook followers.

Group members are welcoming people in the town to a family fun event at Dinnington Resource Centre, on Laughton Road from 5pm.

Atrractions include a bouncy castle, face-painting, a raffle and refreshments ahead of a wrestling bout that will see 14 grapplers go head-to-head.

Donna said: “Like the group itself, the event relies on volunteers and all the proceeds will be handed to the Epilepsy Society.

“It’s great that we can celebrate our first birthday like this. The group has taken off like I could have never have imagined.

“I spend eight hours a day on Facebook and email offering support and advice to people from across the globe.

“A lot of people feel quite alone and isolated when they are diagnosed with epilepsy so all I ever wanted was to provide somewhere for people to share their experiences and get support. It has turned into more than that.”

The fun day is free to enter but those wanting watch the wrestling, which starts at 7pm will, pay £5 or £2.50 for under tens, with under fives going free.
