ROTHER VALLEY RETIRED TEACHERS’ ASSOCIATION: The AGM was held in the Broom Methodist Church Hall on January 14. Chairman Margaret Kettleborough  presented a bouquet to long-serving secretary Anne Guest on her resignation from the post. Senior member Joan Richardson was congratulated on her forthcoming special birthday. A card was given to Iris Empson in advance of her Golden Wedding at the end of the month. The minutes of the 2015 AGM were read by new secretary Valerie Reid.  The existing committee and chairman were elected to remain in office for 2016. Guest speaker Mike Gildersleve gave a talk about 1950s radio, early television, and the era of black and white films. Monthly raffle prize winners were Jill James, Dorothy Beckett, Janet French and Gabrielle Colley. The next meeting is on February 11 when the speaker will be a representative from Wiltshire Farm Foods.

WICKERSLEY PROBUS CLUB: Chairman John Wistow welcomed members to their first meeting of the year. Arthur Peckett gave a talk on The Boy Behind the Book.

 

ST ALBAN’S CHURCH, WICKERSLEY: SALS, the Ladies Fellowship, held its 2016 planning meeting. January 24 – at the 10.30am Family Service, Ellie Ironmonger and Chloe Booth were welcomed with their families following their baptisms last October. At 12.15pm another baptism service took place, and six more children were baptised: Sienna Jayne Ann Hodgson, Martha Grace Carratt, Millie Churm and Jack, Amelia and Evie Bunclark. The Men’s Fellowship has planned its annual dinner at the Seven Seas in Wickersley in February. Anyone interested can sign up at the back of church. The church is conducting a Worship Services Opinion Survey at the moment.  Copies are available at the back of church, and responses should be returned by February 7.

 

SURGERY TIMES: Cllr John Turner, who represents the Hellaby ward on Rotherham Council, holds a surgery at Wickersley Library and Community Centre, Bawtry Road, on the first Tuesday of each month 5.30-6.30pm.

 

COUNCILLOR SURGERY TIMES: The three ward councillors for the Wickersley ward – Sue Ellis, Emma Hoddinott and Chris Read – normally hold four local advice surgeries each month. These are private meetings between councillors and local residents. First Saturday of month 10-11am at Wickersley Library and Community Centre, second Friday of month 6-7pm at Bramley Parish Hall, third Tuesday of month 9.30-10.30am at Mark Grove Community Centre, fourth Monday of month 6-7pm at Sunnyside Community Centre. www.wickersleyward.org.uk
