MEET YOUR COUNCILLORS: Julie Turner and Allen Cowles at Broom Lane Methodist Church on first and third Mondays 6-7pm and at Whiston Parish Hall on second and fourth Mondays 6-7pm. No appointments necessary.

 

PARISH COUNCIL: The previous Saturday there was a Celebration of Reader Ministry at the Cathedral at 3pm and Jan Teale and Patrick White were among those who attended. Sunday the 15th was Pentecost with Parish Communion and the Starfish Gang at 9.45am and Evening Prayer with Prayer for Healing with our Mission partners Herringthorpe and Clifton at 6pm. The Standing Committee met on the Tuesday and the week was dedicated to Christian Aid with a lunch to support its work. Last Sunday was Trinity with Parish Communion and the Starfish Gang and Minnows at 9.45am. At 11.30am Hadley Alice Dickman and Bethany Anne Pick were baptised. Evening prayer was at 6pm. On Thursday the Mothers’ Union Deanery Festival was held when the Diocesan Chaplain, Canon Gordon Taylor, preached.  ommunion is held every Wednesday at 10.30am followed by refreshments. METHODIST CHURCH: Last Sunday the Junior Church visited Gulliver’s Kingdom at Matlock. The preacher in the evening was the Rev Barbara Savage.

 

HERITAGE SOCIETY: The AGM of the society is to be held on June 7 at the Church Meeting Rooms commencing at 7pm. This is to be a most important meeting in the history of the society as members will have to select both a new chairman and a new treasurer and discussion will be taking place on the way forward for the society in the light of recent resignations. So far the secretary has not received any information about the Pinfold Cottages in Whiston — if you know anything please get into contact with him (contact details are the same as for the correspondent for Whiston).
