DEARNE VALLEY COLLEGE: Recently held a seaside-themed Fresher’s Fair with a traditional coastal menu of doughnuts and fish and chips. There was also a surfing simulator and sticks of rock. Local businesses were welcomed together with Rotherham Utd, Aspirations Salon, Drive4Life, DVC Sports, Avon, Victim Support Volunteering, and more. Contact 01709 513355.

 

ACTION ON HEARING LOSS: October 15 – At Wath Library get advice on the maintenance of hearing aids 10.30am-noon, free of charge. New batteries can be fitted on the day. No need to book.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: Police are searching for volunteers to help with a community clean-up. This event has been organised jointly by Rotherham Council and the Wath North Safer Neighbourhood Team and will take place around the area of Wath Skate Park on October 23 and 24. Contact Wath North SNT on 101.

 

RAISING FOR CHARITY: Raising the Rafters Folk Club in Wath is holding its October Club on October 17 8pm at the St James Rooms on Church Street. Organisers hope to raise money for the local community food bank at Montgomery Hall. The club will feature the welcome return of Rotherham band Toein’ in the Dark who are giving their time free of charge. Club organiser Andrew Wild said: “Since Raising the Rafters started in May 2013 we have raised nearly six-and-a-half thousand pounds for local and national charities. We’re very grateful for all who support us, especially excellent bands like Toein’ in the Dark and are very pleased to be able to help the people in most need in our local community by supporting the food bank.” Doors open 7.30pm, club starts 8pm. Admission on door £5. There will be a raffle. The St. James Rooms are not licensed but visitors can bring their own wine, beer or spirits.
