REMEMBERING BRIAN: Tickhill Cricket Club (TCC) players and supporters will remember fondly the day that Yorkshire Cricket Club, Somerset Cricket Club and England legend Brian Close, who died on September 14 aged 84, was a guest of honour at the Alderson Drive ground. A team representing Tickhill played a match against an Old England XI in June 2010 which was the centrepiece of TCC’s 150th anniversary celebrations. Brian had captained the Old England XI in the early 1970s and was at the match supporting the team and attended the anniversary celebratory dinner. It was not the first time that Brian had visited the town for back in 1961 he was special guest at the cricket club’s annual dinner.

AWARDS NIGHT: Tickhill Town Council is making plans for its third annual Community Awards Night. Clerk Mrs Margaret Cannings-Clough is seeking nominations for awards. An independent committee has been formed so the town councillors have no say over who receives the awards that recognise the efforts of people who have made a significant contribution to their community. There is the Young Person of the Year for a child up to 11 who has done something above and beyond that which is expected of a child of their age. For the first time this year the Alison Award for a young person aged 11-25 years for achievement in any field will be awarded. There is also a Community Award for outstanding commitment to the community. All recipients of the awards must either live in the parish of Tickhill or attend Estfeld Primary School or St Mary’s C of E Primary School. Margaret must receive nominations by the end of half term at the end of October via email or post. Mayor of Tickhill Cllr Brian Keith will present the awards at the Mayor’s Reception later this year.
