CHURCH SERVICES: The times and locations of Sunday services are – 1st and 2nd Sundays 10am at St Peter’s Church; 3rd and 4th Sundays 10am at St Leonard’s Church; 5th Sundays usually at St Leonard’s unless a change is notified in the newsletter.

 

ST GERARD’S CATHOLIC PRIMARY SCHOOL: This year Sports Day is on June 17. As in previous years, this will be an all day event and will have a family picnic lunch on the school field. Gardening Club – Mrs Aylward and Mr Watts have volunteered to tend the school garden 9am-noon every Thursday and are looking for parents/grandparents to help. Diary Dates – June 6 Class 5 mass; June 13-17 Y1 Phonics screening check; June 15 welcome meeting for children and parents who start school in September; June 17 Sports Day; June 22-23 transition days; June 24 school closed for teacher training day; June 29-30 art gallery in school; July 7 Class 5 pilgrimage to Padley; July 13 KS2 concert; July 18 leavers mass 9.30am and awards ceremony 1.30pm. After School Clubs – Monday: football 3.15-4.15pm; Tuesday: choir 3.15-4.15pm, tennis 3.15-4.15pm; Wednesday: Reading Club 3.15-4.15pm.

THRYBERGH PARISH COUNCIL: A meeting was held on April 7 at the Parish Hall, Park Lane, Thrybergh. Present: Cllrs A Martin (chair), D Bates, S Docherty, J Foxton, G Marlow, J Parsons, A Scholes, S Tennant and G Trickett. Resolved that the minutes of the previous meeting on March 3 be approved. Matters Arising – Flooding (Footpath from March Flatts): the matter has again been reported to RMBC and has now been passed to the Drainage section for attention; Littering by Postmen: this matter has been brought to the attention of the local area office who undertook to remind their staff to refrain from littering. Neighbourhood Management – the chairman welcomed Mr W Padfield, area housing officer, to the meeting; councillors raised queries regarding individual problem properties. Parish Hall Issues – the clerk provided details of quotations for the supply and fitting of kitchen sinks and pipe work for urinals; resolved that the quotations be accepted. Local Crime Statistics – the clerk provided a summary of reported crime in Thrybergh (January 2016) and after discussion of local crime problems it was agreed that the police would be asked to attend the next meeting of the parish council, an invitation to attend a future meeting of the parish council be extended to the Police and Crime Commissioner (after elections). Planning Applications – the clerk reported that the planning application for the development of the former Fullerton Arms had now been approved, the issue of fly-tipping and vandalism on the site had again been reported to the RMBC Enforcement Team; RMBC had circulated the latest details of the Rotherham Local Plan and Policies Document and a consultation on a draft Rotherham Town Centre Planning Document. Items of Report – Cllr Trickett reported on a meeting of the Area Assembly (on March 22 where issues discussed included RMBC youth services, Community Safety – off road bikes, parking near schools; the clerk reported that a query had arisen in relation to the payment of VAT on the grounds maintenance services provided by RMBC, the clerk is to take advice on the matter and report back to the council. Any Other Non-financial Business – Cllr Docherty expressed concerns regarding the poor state of the road on Park Lane, the matter to again be brought to the attention of RMBC.
