GREASBROUGH ALLOTMENTS SOCIETY: People keen to rent an allotment can find out more by calling at the allotments on Scrooby Drive, Greasbrough, on Sundays 11am-1pm.

 

FRIENDS OF GREASBROUGH PARKS are holding their annual general meeting on Wednesday June 1 in Fitzwilliam Square Complex at 6pm to 7pm. The group, who formed in 2011, work towards the maintenance and improvement of the park and local green spaces. They would be pleased if anyone who is interested in sharing their ideas about the future of the park and local green spaces in the area, to come along and have your say. The agenda will include the election of officers and committee members, plus reports on the year’s events, with time for the discussion about future plans.

COUNCILLORS: The three new councillors for Wingfield will be holding surgeries in Greasbro library at 11am every first, second and third Saturday of each month.

 

GREASBROUGH COMMUNITY BOWLING CLUB: On Monday 16 the club play a singles match at Barkers Park, the games were drawn three all and Barkers won the aggregate. A doubles match was played against Phoenix B at Greasbrough on Friday 20, the home club won three games to one and also gained the additional aggregate win. On Saturday winners were, Summer Round Robin — Dave Milnes and John Byers, Greasbrough Cup round 1 – Martyn Heap, 21 up singles — Martyn Critchlow and Charles Abson.

 

GREASBROUGH COMMUNITY HISTORY SOCIETY: Held their monthly meeting on Thursday May 19 in Greasbrough Public Library. The meeting was well attended and members and visitors enjoyed an illustrated talk presented by Greasbrough Community History Society Secretary Graham Hobson entitled The Wentworth Follies and Monuments (Part Two). Librarian, Mr Lol Antcliffe, informed the meeting that we now have over 70 titles for loan in Greasbrough Community History Society’s own library. Secretary, Graham Hobson, told the meeting that Greasbrough Community History Society now have over 15 titles of Power Point illustrated talks themed on old photos of Greasbrough and district and are keen to share the diverse history and heritage of Greasbrough with groups, clubs, schools and the general public. These illustrated talks can be presented to local groups, clubs, schools and the general public for a realistic donation towards society funds. If you are a local group, club leader or school and would like details of these titles and would like to arrange a showing to your group or club then ring Graham on 01709 551856 or email [email protected]. The society are busy finalising plans for The Clifford Tour at Wentworth Woodhouse. There are a few spare places left and anyone is welcome to join us on Thursday July 7 for the tour which begins at 5.30pm.  Cost is £15 per person. New exhibition Aspects of Greasbrough Life has been running for three weeks and can be viewed free of charge during normal opening hours at Greasbrough Public Library. Feedback on Aspects of Greasbrough Life has been very well accepted and Greasbrough Community History Society has received many positive comments made by members of the Greasbrough Community. Informal drop in sessions are proving popular with GCHS members and the public are most welcome to attend these informal and friendly drop in sessions. Tea and coffee is served. Our next drop in session will be on Thursday June 2 from 5pm to 7pm. New members, facebook members and visitors will be most welcome. The next general meeting of the society will be on Thursday June 16 in Greasbrough Public Library starting at 5pm. Everyone is welcome.
