LAND SALE: Residents have been quick to take action after RMBC announced it was selling a plot of land that has been a playground haven for children since the High Hazels estate was built in the 1950s. Kerry Sunderland drew up paper and electronic petitions and led a campaign. Her mum, Aileen Proctor, still lives on the estate where Kelly grew up. Helped and encouraged by Friends of Catcliffe chairman Pete DeVeaux, she recruited her friends Maxine Spittlehouse, Lisa Parker, Jayne Seymour and Kevin Proctor and many more in gathering names. The land has planning rights for grazing at the present time and even if the sale goes ahead, residents are fighting for it to remain green land. Most petitioners stated the happy memories from playing on the land in their childhood days. RMBC, through its Area Housing Panel, has recently granted the provision of fencing along the length of the land to make it a safer place for children to play. It has been announced that the land has now been withdrawn from sale.

CHURCHYARD CLEAN-UP: St Mary’s Church and Friends of Catcliffe joined forces to tidy the graveyard area in readiness for the Remembrance Day service at the war memorial on November 8.
