BRINSWORTH PARISH COUNCIL Preparations are underway for the annual village fete in July. The event on Sunday July 3 takes place between noon and 4pm and includes craft and charity stalls, Scruffs dog show, vintage car show, football tournament, pony rides, refreshments and a bar. Open Minds theatre group will also run a carnival workshop in preparation for the Rotherham carnival in September. The parish council is in the process of looking at the installation of CCTV to cover the interior and exterior of its premises and to improve security. Plans for a village resource/community are well underway as the parish council was successful with its stage 2 bid and is now in the final stage of the funding application process. Detailed plans are now being prepared in time for submission by August, and a final decision of whether the bid has been successful should be heard by December. The parish council is looking for £500,000 for the project and work would start early in 2017 and be expected to be complete by 2018. An awards for all grant has been won by the parish council to enable summer holiday activities for youngsters. The £10,000 grant will allow sporting activities to take place at Brinsworth Academy in the summer school holidays. A number of complaints have been made about groundworks taking place throughout the village by Virgin Media. Residents have been upset by work not carried out satisfactorily, mess and traffic disruption and Rotherham Council is now looking into the matter and liasing with the contractor. The parish council is in negotations with Rotherham council about allowing traffic access on Wood Lane between Brinsworth and Catcliffe. The road would allow access onto Europa Way and ther majority of residents are in favour of the move. However, highways officials have told the parish council, traffic modelling would need to be done first to see if there would be any impact on neighbouring roads. This will take place later in the year. The black path which runs from Sunnybank Crescent and the playing fields and the new Field View estate is to be closed off by a barrier where the path joins the palying fields in a bid to prevent anti social behaviour from youths throwing stones at nearby houses and using it for quad bikes. Where the path joins Whitehill Lane, a kissing style gate will be erected to allow disable wheelchair access but will prevent quad bikes.
