Swimming pool turns pink to help raise cancer awareness in Rotherham

A SWIMMING pool in Rotherham will be turned pink on Sunday to raise awareness of cervical cancer and to get more people active.

The Rotherham Leisure Complex pool will stage two aqua classes from 3pm until 5pm.

Places for People sports development manager Emily Newman said: "The aim of the event is to get more people active in a fun environment but we are also working with the cervical cancer team as it is National Cervical Cancer Awareness Week.

"At the event we will also be selling cupcakes with all donations going to Cancer Research UK, all in aid of a very good cause and we will have a call to action to encourage more women to get more active and involved in their health and wellbeing.

"The fact that it is Cervical Cancer Prevention Week means Rotherham Leisure Complex is using the women's only event as an opportunity to support cervical screening promotion."

More information is available at the Fear of Smear website at www.fearorsmear.dbh.nhs.uk  where women can find out more about cervical cancer.
