ROTHERHAM’S thousands of carers will be able to tap into help and advice at a special event next weekend.

Carers’ Corner is hosting a celebration of National Carers’ Rights Day at its Drummond Street base from 10am to 4pm on Friday, November 29.

Carers will be able to access: Personalised benefits advice to make sure that they are aware of the benefits they are entitled to;  Members of the Connect to Support team will be there to explain how you can access information on support that is available in Rotherham; Assistive Technology advice — the technology staff will show carers how to use specialised aids to help the person they care for. The latest technology and support will be on display with free advice about how carers can improve the living at home experience for those you care for; Stay Put staff will help people who are feeling the cold and are struggling. They supply free packs with a blanket,  hot soups and more for adults and children to help them keep warm; Free tea, coffee and biscuits, and someone to talk to about and support you in your caring role.

Jeanette Mallinder, Rotherham Carers’ Forum co-ordinator. said: “If you are a carer this is simply a day that you cannot miss.

“The practical help that will be available is staggering with independence and warmth firmly at the centre of the day.

“We are looking forward to meeting hundreds of carers who will be better prepared for winter following this important event.

“This is a special day for carers but I would like to take this opportunity to remind people that we are here at the Carers’ Centre whenever they need us and not just on Carers’ Rights Day.”

Cllr Foden added: “Without carers, the whole country could grind to a halt.

“It is essential that they remain aware of the services and the products that can enhance the quality of life for those they care for and this day will be invaluable.

“I urge everybody who cares for somebody to come along and see what is available.”
