IT WAS party time in the Dearne Valley with a weekend of carnivals and right royal celebrations.

Barnburgh and Harlington Carnival took over Church Lane Recreation Ground in Barnburgh on Saturday, with attractions including an Escafeld Medieval re-enactment and “living history” display, a Chinese exercise display and a performance by singer Kayleigh Chambers plus a dog show, the “Cat and Man Steeple Chase”, races for children and adults, craft and fund-raising stalls.

Wath, meanwhile, held its tradtional church garden party on Saturday, with a bouncy castle, stalls, barbecue, fun games and face painting — all with a roual theme.

Meanwhile, children at Dearne Valley schools saluted the Queen’s 90th birthday with street parties.

Dearne ALC and Cortonwood Infants School were both among the venues for royal celebrations.

Gabriella Clark from the ALC said: “In the morning, we played the national anthem throughout school so that students and staff could sing along and the catering team also joined in the celebrations by selling decorated cakes at dinner time.

“The library team organised an Alice in Wonderland-themed tea party to celebrate for the top book borrowers in school.”
