Open-air events bring party-time to the Dearne

IT’S PARTY time in the Dearne Valley this weekend with two popular annual open-air events set for a return.

Barnburgh and Harlington Carnival rolls around again this weekend, with medieval history activities, live music and a dog show among the attractions.

The action unfolds at the Church Lane Recreational Ground from 1pm tomorrow (11) onwards.

Entry is £1 for everyone over the age of 14.

The WI will be selling refreshments, Escafeld Medieval Re-enactment Group will be providing a display and activities, including living history demonstrations,.

There is also the Cat and Man Steeple Chase — referring to the historic legend of a horse rider who battled a wild big cat over a mile’s distance in nearby fields — held on the field with classes across the age groups, craft stalls, coconut shy, driving skills, farm animals, country skills, team games, Nature Safari ad music from local singers.

Meanwhile, Wath is holding its traditional summer garden party, with a royal theme to mark the Queen’s 90th birthday.

Taking place in the town hall grounds from 1pm tomorrow (11), the event will feature a bouncy castle, book stalls, refreshments, plants, collectables, jewellery stall, face  painting, tombola, cake stall and barbecue, as well as fun stalls and games.

Entry is just 20p and children get in for free.
