Olivia smiles through East Herringthorpe fun day!

HIT AND run victim Olivia Pollard smiled her way through a fund-raising day staged by her local community to send her on holiday to Disneyworld in Florida.

Olivia is recovering well after she was hit by at least one off-road biker as she and mum Jessica began to cross Ridgeway in East Herringthorpe in July.

Disney character Mickey Mouse even put in an appearance at the event, organised by family friends Hollie Marshall and Louise Dye, at Silverwood Miners’ Welfare which raised more than £460.

Hollie, of Fretwell Road, East Herringthorpe, said: “We raised £467.40.

“All the raised money is going to Sheffield Children’s Hospital as requested by Olivia’s mum Jess.

“I would like to thank everyone who helped me and others in all the things that we have done for Olivia and her family.

“The charity and the support and kindness has been amazing as a community. I think we have done ourselves proud.”

Family friend Tracy Cawthorne was inspired by little Olivia to do a sponsored walk today (Saturday) in aid of Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

Tracy said: “I’ve done a collection for Olivia and raised £200 for a toys gift voucher but I felt I had to do more.

“We will be setting off from Asda at Dalton, heading on to Parkgate Shopping and through Rotherham town centre and Clifton Park and plan to finish at the Park Hotel at around 4.30pm. We are carrying collection buckets. Yorkshire Air Ambulance staff will be waving us off.”
