Mental health charity to benefit from New York Stadium black tie dinner

THE NEW York Stadium will host a black tie gala dinner next month to support a new mental health charity.

The event on July 16 is in aid of the Clarke Carlisle Foundation for Dual Diagnosis, which was founded by ex-footballer Clarke Carlisle to raise awareness of the condition and funds for a purpose-built treatment facility.

It is being co-organised by Rotherham United Community Sports Trust, Rotherham MIND, Treeton Terriers and Rotherham Harriers.

Carlisle himself, who attempted suicide in 2014, will be giving an after-dinner speech.

He said: “I was once told that bravery is starting a conversation that makes a difference. Well, events like this are doing exactly that and I can't wait to be a part of it.”

Jamie Noble from RUCST, which runs its own mental health project, said: “We are delighted to be hosting this fantastic event with our partners, we would like the night to be about openness and positivity which will hopefully breakdown barriers and challenge the stigma attached.”

The event includes three-course dinner, live music, photo booth, auction, raffle and disco.

Tickets are £40 or £350 for a table of ten.
