Marathon bike ride to end at nature reserve

A NATURE reserve is set to be the finishing point of a mammoth bike ride.

Old Moor in Wath is to be the end of a 28-mile bike ride starting at the RSPB’s other reserve at Fairburn Ings near Castleford.

It is the charity’s first ever Big Bike Ride in Yorkshire and will take place next Saturday (July 12).

The route follows the Trans-Pennine Trail through Leeds, Wakefield and Barnsley and will raise money for the conservation charity.

To find out more and enter, visit the RSPB Fairburn Ings or Old Moor event pages on www.rspb.org.uk and follow the link.

Julie Mackenzie, RSPB Aire Valley community ranger and event organiser, said: “People don’t normally associate the RSPB with cycling but getting out on your bike is a great way to connect with your local countryside and the wildlife that lives there.

“This bike ride will be fantastic for people and families with older children wanting a challenge.”
