Male dance company reaches for the South Yorkshire skies

AN all-male dance company will be reaching for the Barnsley sky tonight.

Zoielogic physical theatre dance company are coming to The Civic with their high voltage, risk taking production SAFE.

Choreographer and artistic director Zoie Golding was inspired to make this swing-time, high flyer after visiting the Empire State Building in New York and wondering what it must have been like to have been one of the construction workers.

Back in the 1930s there was no such thing as “health and safety” and we’ve all seen iconic photos of the construction workers literally hanging out on a piece of scaffolding, eating their lunch, hundreds of feet in the air above the traffic.

SAFE is a piece about masculinity and brotherhood, the incredible teamwork of these men, the camaraderie and the bravery, testing masculinity in a world of fragility and adversity.

Safe is at The Civic at 7.30pm tonight.

Tickets are £14 full price and £12 for concessions.

The show is recommended for ages 14 and over.
