Historian Sheridan Shacklethwaite to give tours of Sheffield Central Library

HIDDEN treasures of a library collection will be brought into focus by torchlight at an atmospheric event this weekend.

Broadcaster and historian Sheridan Shacklethwaite will be leading light-hearted tours of Sheffield Central Library basement on Saturday.

Book lovers are invited to explore the intriguing underground space with him, have fun and learn some interesting facts about the library.

He said: “I’ve carried out extensive research about the Central Library, and made the rest up over a cup of tea, so I hope you’ll join me on this vaguely historical, mildly accurate, thoroughly-researched, completely made-up, yet hugely enjoyable tour.”  

Tours last approximately 40 minutes and there are stairs, low lighting levels and confined spaces involved.   

It’s suitable for all ages but children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult.  

Secrets of the Stack is hourly from 11am to 3pm next Saturday.
