THE match will go on!

That’s the aim for Rotherham United Women tomorrow as they aim to finally play their re-arranged charity match in memory of one of their own.

Millers players from across the generations were due to battle it out for victory last Friday, but the game fell victim to torrential rain and a soggy pitch.

A team of current Rotherham United Women players are now preparing to kick off tomorrow (Friday) at 7pm against players from past years in the charity match for Weston Park Cancer Charity and Dementia UK at Roundwood Pavilion in Rawmarsh.

They are paying tribute to the late Shirley Pollock (pictured), who was secretary of the club for 12 years and a familiar face on the touchline after her grand-daughter Amy joined the junior team.

Shirley, who died aged 84 in January 2020, was involved in women’s football at regional level and served as secretary of Sheffield and Hallamshire Women’s County League.

With the forecast for tomorrow looking brighter, there are high hopes of the rearranged game going ahead.

After the match there will also be a disco and DJ set.

Club secretary said she hoped for a strong turnout “in memory of the one and only Shirley Pollock and all the other greats of women’s football over the years”.

Admission to the game is £2.
