Fundraiser to mark Jessica’s birthday

STAFF at a hair salon hosted a charity coffee morning in memory of a lost employee and close friend.

KaVa Hair Gallery in Herringthorpe hosted the morning in honour of hair stylist Jessica Lally, who died at the age of 26.

Salon owner Kate Vardy said: “Jessica passed away suddenly last year.

“She had a heart attack and had there been a defibrillator nearby she’d have had a better chance of surviving, so we’re now raising money to get more defibrillators in local areas.”

The fundraiser took place on August 15, which would have been Jessica’s 27th birthday.

On top of cakes and coffees, the morning boasted a raffle with prizes worth £500, donated from Kate’s own stock.

“We’ve also got Lauren from GHD involved,” Kate added.

“She’s our rep that sells to us and she’s offered to come in and do demonstrations.”

All money raised was donated to the charities Restart a Heart and The Jessica Lally Community Fund.

According to The British Heart Foundation, who run Restart a Heart, 100,000 people are admitted to hospital for heart attacks each year.

KaVa’s charity morning raised £620, which will help stop the kind of tragedy caused by unexpected heart conditions.
