Cast musical named in top 100

A MUSICAL which was created and rehearsed at a South Yorkshire theatre has been named as one of the top 100 shows by an entertainment website.

Miss Nightingale the musical, which was developed at Doncaster’s Cast Theatre, is on the Top 100 Greatest Musicals of All Time list organised by BritishTheatre.com.

The show has had three successful UK tours and was written and composed by Sheffield-born Matthew Bugg and produced by his company Mr Bugg Presents.

Set in 1940s London, Miss Nightingale is a comedy-drama that commemorates the forgotten fate of gay men castigated during World War Two.

Matthew Bugg said: “I am absolutely thrilled, amazed and overwhelmed that the Great British public have voted Miss Nightingale into the Top 100 Greatest Musicals. This is such a huge honour and I am so grateful to everyone who took the time to vote for us.

“When we first staged the show back in 2011 we never dreamt people would take it to their hearts in the way they have and that it would be still be going strong five years’ later.”

Cast’s deputy director Clare Clarkson said: “It’s so exciting that a new musical which Cast helped to nurture has had such an impact.
