AN ARTISTS’ society has announced its autumn programme of demonstrations and workshops.

The Rotherham Society of Artists meets on Fridays from 7pm to 9pm at the Unity Centre, St Leonard’s Road, Rotherham S65 1PD.

The autumn programme starts on September 6, with Nick Summerbell on Chinese painting, demonstrating various techniques then give the audience the opportunity to try it for themselves.

The workshop on September 20 offers the chance for participants to draw or paint or else bring along something they are already working on. There is also the opportunity to see others’ work, ask advice or use the encaustic art materials provided by the society.

Life drawing is on offer on October 4, with a model doing various short poses then a longer pose, materials such as paper, charcoal and pencils are provided but those who have a board or easel should take it along.

On October 18, there is a demonstration/talk by Jane Lazenby, showing how to insert the figure into a composition and how to use a sketch or life situation as a starting point for a serious piece of work.

Figure drawing is the subject on November 1, when members will pose singly or in twos and threes for about ten minutes for participants to take photographs or quick sketches to use in their paintings.
