Afghanistan hero Ben Parkinson set for Rotherham Burns Night appearance

LANCE Bombardier Ben Parkinson will be guest of honour at a Burns Night dinner aiming to raise thousands of pounds for the Yorkshire Regiment Benevolent Trust.

The Afghanistan war veteran, 2012 Olympic Torch bearer and Yorkshire Man of the Year 2009 will once again join the organisers of Rotherham’s annual Burns Night Gala Dinner in the Great Hall at Magna for the event on January 26.

This year the festivities will feature The Band of the Yorkshire Regiment and will raise funds in aid of the Yorkshire Regiment Benevolent Trust and PHASE Worldwide.

The Burns Night Dinner will include four courses of Scottish fayre served after the traditional Piping in the Haggis ceremony.

Music from the Yorkshire Regiment Marching Band, the amassed pipes and drums of the Scots Guards Association and dancing from the Gillian Banks Theatre School will provide entertainment throughout the event, before more live music from The Magnetics give guests the chance to get on the dance floor themselves.

Broadcaster, raconteur and best selling author Gervase Phinn will be the master of ceremonies.
