A new look craze inspired by cancer patient’s head shave

CANCER patient Julie Crossland sparked a mini-craze of smooth new looks when she decided to lose her hair to the razor for a good cause.

The 43-year-old said staff at Weston Park Hospital had been shocked when she turned up for chemotherapy with more than £900 for the hospital’s cancer charity.

She had enlisted close friend Kelly Jardine to shave off her hair at Goldthorpe’s Rusty Dudley and inspired two supporters to follow suit.

Jack Lackenby, the son of another friend, joined in the pub event, while long-time school friend Amanda Kilner had herself videoed as she had a close shave at home.

Julie, who worked behind the Rusty Dudley bar before starting her chemotherapy, said: “I knew my hair was all going to fall out...so I thought why not take something positive from the situation?

“We decided to turn it into a bit of an event at the pub.

“When I went for chemo and told them what we had raised they were like: ‘Oh my god’ \_ they couldn’t believe it.”

Julie, of Welfare View, said she had been diagnosed in February after finding a lump in her breast and was hopeful of making a full recovery.

“I thought it was probably a cyst but I went to get it checked out after umm-ing and ahh-ing about it,” she said.

“It was an awful shock to learn I had cancer but I’m glad I got it looked at.

“They caught it early and have given me chemotherapy to be on the safe side.”

Julie said she was happy with her new look, while Jack was also planning to keep his very short back and sides, too.
