Outdoor centre wins MP’s admiration

AN outdoor adventure centre has been praised by an MP for inspiring children to keep fit and healthy while learning some important life skills.

Wentworth and Dearne MP John Healey visited Pop’s Outdoor Adventure Centre, which aims to improve the mental and physical health of people in Rotherham and the wider community, to see the work it has been doing to help keep children.

Mr Healey was particularly impressed with how Pop’s has been running sessions for youngsters centred around healthy eating, team challenges, problem solving and outdoor fun to enhance children’s development.

Mr Healey said: “I’ve been involved with Pop’s for over ten years now and it’s always good to come and visit and see the fantastic work they do with children from across the borough during the holidays.

“The children taking part told me it’s the highlight of their summer and explained how much they enjoy getting involved in the sessions as they get to learn and take part in new things.

“The sessions provided by Pop’s fill a gap for kids, especially during the summer holidays, when schools are closed and it’s great to see the children having such a brilliant time taking part in a whole range of activities.”

Around 2,000 children have taken part in the sessions which are based at Rosehill Park in Rawmarsh and also at Flanderwell Early Excellence Centre in Wickersley.
