Winning finish for Scott

ANDY Scott notched his first win in charge of Rotherham United this afternoon at the expense of Torquay United at Don Valley Stadium.

First-half strikes from Ryan Taylor and Danny Harrison and a late goal by youth product Oliver Banks, on his debut, sealed a 3-1 win in Scott’s fifth game at the helm.

It wasn’t enough to deny Torquay a place in the League Two play-offs as results elsewhere meant they maintained the place in the top seven. Rotherham finished ninth.

The Millers took the lead on ten minutes when Taylor stabbed in from close range after goalkeeper Scott Bevan fumbled Adam Le Fondre’s initial effort.

Chris Zebroski shot in off the post to equalise just after the half-hour mark from a swift counter-attack but the Milers regained the lead almost immediately when Harrison rifled home from Taylor’s lay-back.

Substitute Banks, who had only been on the field a couple of minutes, made it 3-1 ten minutes from time when he steered the ball inside the near post from a Le Fondre feed to round off the Millers’ first home win since February.

Millers: Annerson, Tonge, Green, Cresswell (capt), Ashworth (Marshall 54), Bradley, J. Taylor, Harrison, Law, Le Fondre, R. Taylor (Henderson 46).
