We're shaping up says Evans

MANAGER Steve Evans says he is more confident about Rotherham United's prospects than at any time since their return to the Championship.

The Millers have met the challenge of a difficult five-match run very well so far, beating high-flying Ipswich and pushing title contenders Derby all the way at the AESSEAL New York Stadium on Tuesday before being pegged back to draw.

Those matches sandwiched a narrow defeat at Blackburn and now Rotherham complete the sequence with demanding trips to Wolverhampton Wanderers tomorrow and in-form Watford on Tuesday.

The gap to third-bottom Millwall still stands at only four points and the Lions are the visitors to the NYS next Saturday. But Evans says his squad, which was re-shaped in the January transfer window, is now better equipped to deal with the rigours of a demanding division.

He told the Advertiser: “I've never been as confident as I am at the moment when I look at the games, the players and the competition for places here. We've a good group and while it's not complete, we are stronger. It’s the best we’ve ever been.

“We'll go to Wolves and Watford and no-one will give us a chance but everyone here does, we are all demanding things of each other and the supporters demand too. We're in this mix together.

“This weekend we'll be playing in front of 26,000 against a club that's been talking about making a real push for promotion.

“Watford is another great place to go and play and I think that if there's any one team that can jump into that top two, it's them.

“We control our own destiny. We need to compete with the big clubs in this league and if we can get some away points from the next two then that will help us going into the matches against Millwall and then Cardiff.”
