We'll get stronger, says Scott

THE old adage that the league season is a marathon, not a sprint, could yet work to Rotherham United's favour in the long term.

Having failed to sparkle so far, Andy Scott is backing his side to up their game in the second half of the campaign, boosted by some promised new additions during the January transfer window.

With the gap to top three still a yawning 11 points, the play-offs are the first aim.

That's something of a climb-down from Scott's stated aim of the title back in the summer but he insists that if they can nibble away at the gap then automatic promotion may eventually be within reach.

He said: "I honestly believe that if we make a couple of changes and bring a couple of new bodies in that we are good enough to challenge for the top three\!q but we have got to pick up some points to get us as close to the play-offs as possible to be able to kick on.

"Then in the second half of the season, with our fitness and with the bodies we have got here, I think we will be very, very strong."

The Millers, meanwhile, chase a fourth win in five league games when they face league newcomers AFC Wimbledon at Don Valley Stadium tomorrow.

Scott added: "They pass it and play an expansive game and we'll have to be on our mettle against them, but there are weaknesses we can exploit."
